MFS Milestone: Dhaka Youth Dev Starts Digital Allowance Distribution
In a significant move to bring government services directly to the doorsteps of citizens, the formal inauguration of travel allowance distribution through Mobile Financial Services (MFS) was held for trained youths under the Department of Youth Development, Dhaka. The launching ceremony of this modern payment system took place on Monday afternoon at the conference room of the district office.
A.K.M. Shahriar Reza, Deputy Director of the Department of Youth Development, Dhaka District, delivered the welcome address. Dr. Gazi Md. Saifuzzaman, Director General (Grade-1) of the Youth Development Department, virtually joined the event as the chief guest and officially inaugurated the allowance distribution through bKash and Rocket. This digital initiative ensures that trainees receive their allowances directly on their mobile phones, eliminating any involvement of intermediaries.
Ahmed Shamsul Huda, Head of Rocket, and Mehmood Ashik Iqbal, Senior Vice President of Government Partnership at bKash Limited, were present as special guests. In their speeches, they pledged maximum technical and strategic support to implement this digital allowance distribution across all districts, including Dhaka. Priyasindhu Talukdar, Director (Training) of the Youth Development Department, presided over the ceremony. Highlighting the importance of the MFS system in ensuring transparency and accountability, he expressed his gratitude to Dutch-Bangla Bank PLC and bKash Ltd. for their cooperation before concluding the event.
Reflecting the immediate impact of digital payments, BDT 117,900 was distributed via Rocket among 25 trainees of a three-month tailoring course in Dhaka district. Additionally, BDT 18,000 was instantly disbursed through bKash to 30 trainees of a seven-day beautification course under the Cantonment Unit Thana. The trainees expressed immense joy and satisfaction as they received the funds instantly on their mobile accounts. With the commencement of this online system, trainees in Dhaka district will no longer face long waits or the hassle of physical presence to collect their allowances, marking a unique precedent in government service delivery.
