Jamuna Bridge Sees Surge in Vehicle Traffic as Northern Commuters Return After Eid
Tk 3.41 Crore Toll Revenue Collected in 24 Hours at Jamuna Bridge
People from the northern regions are returning to their workplaces following the Eid holidays, resulting in increased vehicle traffic on the Jamuna Bridge. Over the past 24 hours, more than 46,000 vehicles have crossed the bridge, generating nearly Tk 3.41 crore in toll revenue.
Executive Engineer of the Jamuna Bridge Site Office, Syed Riaz Uddin, confirmed this information on the morning of Saturday, 28 March.
According to the Jamuna Bridge authorities, between 12:00 am on Thursday and 12:00 am on Friday—a 24-hour period—a total of 46,278 vehicles crossed the bridge, yielding toll revenue of Tk 3,41,53,900.
Of these, 30,056 vehicles crossed the northbound lane towards Dhaka, generating Tk 1,98,43,100 in tolls, while 16,222 vehicles crossed the southbound lane towards northern regions, generating Tk 1,43,10,800 in tolls.
Syed Riaz Uddin, Executive Engineer of the Maintenance and Operations Division of the Jamuna Bridge Authority, stated that people have started returning home after the Eid holidays, resulting in several days of heavy traffic. Over the past 24 hours, traffic volume has doubled compared to normal levels. To manage the vehicle flow, a total of 18 toll booths—nine at each end of the bridge—have been kept operational.
Among these, two special booths at each end are being used exclusively for motorcycle crossings.
