Minister Visits GPO and BTCL Headquarters, Stresses Public-Oriented Services
Fakir Mahbub Anam, Minister of the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology and the Ministry of Science and Technology, visited the General Post Office (GPO) in the capital and the headquarters of Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited located in Eskaton on the same day and held meetings with senior officials. During the visits, the minister emphasized the importance of gaining public trust by conducting public welfare-oriented activities. Adviser to the Prime Minister Rehan Asif Asad was also present on the occasion.
Speaking at an exchange meeting with officials after visiting the GPO in the capital on 14 March, the minister said that the Dhaka General Post Office is a historic and landmark institution of the country’s postal service. Maintaining a clean, orderly, and efficient environment at the institution is the responsibility of all concerned.
The minister further said that the postal department is a service-oriented institution, and therefore gaining the trust of the public is of utmost importance. Through collective efforts, the postal service can be transformed into a more modern and service-friendly institution. Improving service quality, he added, will further strengthen people’s confidence in the postal department.
As the special guest, Secretary of the Posts and Telecommunications Division Abdun Naser Khan said that the historic campus of the postal department is an important asset. “We want it to be used effectively,” he said.
Calling on the concerned authorities, the secretary added that initiatives must be taken quickly for cleanliness, repairs, and proper utilization so that no questions arise about the asset in the future. The ministry, he said, will provide financial or other assistance if necessary.
During the inspection, the minister was briefed about the overall activities of the GPO, the service delivery process, and various infrastructural aspects.
The meeting was chaired by Director General of the Department of Posts Kazi Asadul Islam, with officials from different levels of the postal department and other relevant individuals present. Similarly, the meeting at Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited was chaired by its Acting Managing Director Md. Abdul Mannan.
