IUBAT Holds Ninth Convocation, Awards Degrees to Nearly 1,000 Graduates
The ninth convocation of the International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT) was held on Monday, 26 January, with degrees conferred upon nearly 1,000 students from the Autumn 2024 to Summer 2025 semesters. Three students were awarded the prestigious Mian Gold Medal for outstanding academic performance.
The gold medal recipients are Shahrin Khandaker from the Department of Agriculture, Mst. Lutfunnahar Kamini from the Department of English, and Maharunnisa Mitu from the Department of Public Health. Among them, Shahrin Khandaker achieved the highest distinction and received the Alimulya Mian Award, the most prestigious honour of the convocation.
The ceremony took place in the afternoon at the Bangladesh–China Friendship Conference Centre in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Agargaon, Dhaka.
The convocation was presided over by Foreign Affairs Adviser Mohammad Touhid Hossain. In his address, he emphasized the importance of ensuring quality in higher education, expanding international cooperation, and fostering ethical values and professional responsibility among students. He also praised IUBAT’s initiatives in research, global ranking achievements, education for sustainable development, and knowledge-based area development programmes.
The convocation speaker was Professor Jeff Keshen, President of the University of Regina, Canada, who highlighted the significance of higher education and research in a global context, as well as the growing need for international academic collaboration.
The Vice-Chancellor of IUBAT, Professor Dr Abdur Rab, delivered the welcome address, while Professor Selina Nargis, Treasurer of the university, delivered the closing remarks, expressing sincere gratitude to all concerned for the successful organisation of the event.
According to IUBAT sources, degrees were awarded in a wide range of disciplines, including MBA, MPH, BBA, Agriculture, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Economics, Tourism and Hospitality Management, Nursing, and English, among others.
Established in 1991, IUBAT is a pioneer among private universities in Bangladesh. The institution was founded by renowned educationist and former Director of the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), University of Dhaka, Professor Dr M. Alimullah Mian. Since its inception, IUBAT has achieved notable success in academic excellence, research, and innovation, earning a strong position in global rankings among Bangladesh’s private universities.
