DU Dean’s Day: Distinction, Dedication, and Dozens of Deserving Awardees from Faculty of Pharmacy
Six students have been awarded the Dean’s Award by the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Dhaka for achieving outstanding results in the Bachelor of Professional Pharmacy examinations of the 2022 and 2023 academic years. In addition, seven faculty members were honored with the Dean’s Recognition Award for special contributions to research in 2023, 2024, and 2025.
On Wednesday, 19 November, the awards were presented to the students and teachers at the Nawab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building. Two individuals also received the Bangladesh Pharmaceutical Society (BPS) Gold Medal, and two others were awarded the Kothashilpi Sardar Jainuddin Gold Medal. Moreover, eight students who secured the highest GPA/marks in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th-year professional B. Pharm examinations of 2022 and 2023 received the Badrunnessa Gafur Memorial Trust Scholarship, while 16 students were awarded the Bangladesh Pharmaceuticals Society (BPS) Scholarship.
The event was presided over by the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Professor Dr. Selim Reza. The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Dhaka, Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmad Khan, attended as the chief guest. Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr. Saima Haque Bidisha, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) Professor Dr. Mamun Ahmed, and Treasurer Professor Dr. M. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury were present as special guests. Chairman of Radiant Pharmaceuticals Limited, Md. Naser Shahriar Zahedi, delivered the Dean’s Award speech. The event was convened by Professor Dr. Aslam Hossain.
Dean Professor Dr. Md. Selim Reza announced the names of the recipients of the Dean’s Award for both students and teachers. Professor Dr. Aslam Hossain announced the names of the gold medalists and scholarship recipients. Deans of various faculties, department chairpersons, institute directors, provosts, the proctor, faculty members, and guardians attended the ceremony.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmad Khan remarked that today’s award-winning students and teachers have enhanced the university’s honor. Emphasizing that no achievement is ever isolated, he stressed that the contributions of family members, teachers, and society must be acknowledged when evaluating success.
He further stated that the true progress of the university depends on the active participation of society. He noted that the presence of guardians, industrial entrepreneurs, media, and representatives from related sectors serves as strong evidence of the relationship between society and the university.
Speaking on the progress of the pharmaceutical industry, the Vice-Chancellor said that its national success is the result of farsighted policies, and despite being a relatively small faculty, the Faculty of Pharmacy continues to make remarkable contributions in research, rankings, and education.
