Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST) has taken a proactive stance in the face of a renewed outbreak of the coronavirus. Becoming the first university in the country to prepare independently for testing the virus, JUST has announced its readiness to conduct Covid-19 tests from within its campus. In a renewed wave of caution, members of the university community have also resumed wearing masks.
In response to the current rise in infections, JUST has launched several preventive campaigns, including placing awareness billboards across campus, distributing informative leaflets, handing out masks and hand sanitizers, and setting up first-aid boxes in various departments.
On Wednesday, June 18, the “Let’s Wear Masks” campaign was formally launched at the administrative building’s conference hall, organized by the university’s Dr. M. R. Medical Center. The event was inaugurated by JUST Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Majid.
In his speech, the Vice-Chancellor stated, “As the spread of a new sub-variant of the coronavirus intensifies across the country, the government has already begun taking precautionary steps. I urge everyone in the university community to comply with the official health directives. JUST has initiated all necessary measures to combat Covid-19. Let us avoid touching our eyes, nose, and mouth with unclean hands, maintain proper distancing, and cover our mouths and noses while coughing or sneezing. By observing these health protocols, we can help build a healthy family, society, and nation.”
Regarding the university’s testing readiness, the Vice-Chancellor added, “JUST is prepared to conduct coronavirus tests. We have already informed the Civil Surgeon of Jessore District about the need to supply test kits. Once the kits are provided, we will be able to begin testing. Our commitment stems from a sense of social responsibility and a desire to safeguard the well-being of the people and the nation.”
Additional speakers at the event included JUST Treasurer Professor Dr. Hossain Al Mamun and Chief Medical Officer Dr. Dipak Kumar Mondal. Among the attendees were the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology Dr. Md. Amzad Hossain, Dean of the Faculty of Biological Science and Technology Professor Dr. Md. Sirajul Islam, Dean of the Faculty of Science Dr. Md. Kurban Ali, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences Dr. Md. Munibur Rahman, University Registrar Engineer Md. Ahsan Habib, Provost of Munshi Meherullah Hall Dr. Md. Abdur Rauf Sarkar, Chief Engineer Professor Dr. H. M. Zakir Hossain, and faculty members, administrative officials, and staff from various departments.
