To make passenger transport services more technology-driven, convenient, and citizen-friendly, the state-owned Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) is set to introduce an e-ticketing service on three routes under a pilot project. The online ticketing platform Shohoz.com will provide the service.

On Thursday, November 13, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between BRTC and Shohoz.com at BRTC’s headquarters in Motijheel, Dhaka. Md. Abdul Latif, Unit Head of the Motijheel Bus Depot, and Md. Zulfiqar Ali, Unit Head of the Barishal Bus Depot, signed the MoU on behalf of BRTC, while Shohoz.com Director (Tickets) Shakil Jowad Rahim signed on behalf of his organization.

According to the agreement, the pilot e-ticketing service will initially be introduced on three routes: Dhaka–Barishal–Dhaka, Dhaka–Daudkandi–Dhaka, and Dhaka–Araihazar–Dhaka. Passengers will be able to purchase tickets through the web portal, mobile apps, call centers, and other online channels.

Shohoz.com will charge Tk 20 per ticket as an online service fee, while customers will also pay the standard payment gateway service charges as applicable.

BRTC Chairman Abdul Latif Molla said, “Although the e-ticketing service is being introduced on three routes as a pilot project, we plan to expand it gradually across all BRTC routes if the response is positive. Shohoz.com has been working with Bangladesh Railway for a long time in e-ticketing, so they have the required experience. Our passengers will benefit from this technology-based service, and BRTC will emerge as a role model in the country’s transport sector.”

The signing ceremony was presided over by BRTC Chairman Abdul Latif Molla and attended by Director (Administration and Operations) Md. Rahenul Islam, Director (Technical) Colonel Kazi Ayub Ali, general managers of various departments, officials from the head office, and representatives from Shohoz.com.
