Rhythm of Oxygen: JUST Chemistry Department Celebrates 12 Years with Joy and Jubilation
Under the theme “Rhythm of Oxygen,” the Department of Chemistry at Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST) celebrated its 12th anniversary with a vibrant blend of festivities — including a cake-cutting ceremony, seminar, floral reception for freshers, farewell tributes to outgoing students, distribution of intra-departmental sports prizes, and a captivating cultural evening.
The celebration took place on Wednesday morning, November 12, at the Professor Mohammad Sharif Hossain Gallery in the National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam Academic Building. JUST Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Majid graced the occasion as the chief guest.
In his address, Professor Dr. Abdul Majid said, “Alongside academic excellence, our university emphasizes nurturing students into honest, competent, and morally upright individuals. You must grow not only as scholars of modern education and research but also as humane, skilled individuals with integrity. From the very beginning, set clear goals for your lives and value your time wisely to achieve professional growth and excellence. The responsibility to uphold the university’s reputation and dignity at national and international levels rests upon you. That is our sincere expectation from you.”
The keynote speaker at the seminar arranged for the students was Professor Dr. Mohammad Abul Hasnat from the Department of Chemistry at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST). He delivered an insightful presentation on various aspects of chemistry related to professional development and offered guidance for building successful careers.
The event was presided over by Dr. Md. Korban Ali, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Chairperson of the Department of Chemistry. Special guest Professor Dr. Hossain Al Mamun, Treasurer of JUST, also addressed the gathering. The event’s Organizing Secretary and Associate Professor of the department, Dr. Suman Chandra Mohanto, delivered remarks as well.
Among other notable attendees were Professor Dr. H. M. Zakir Hossain, Chief Engineer of the university; Dr. Md. Abdur Rauf Sarkar, Provost of Munshi Meherullah Hall; along with faculty members and students of the Department of Chemistry. The program was conducted by students Mahsin Jim and Takiya Jaman.
