Solar Synergy: BRAC and IDCOL Sign Agreement to Expand Renewable Energy Use

BRAC has taken a significant step toward increasing its reliance on renewable energy by initiating the installation of solar power systems across 32 of its institutional facilities. To this end, a formal agreement was signed on Monday, November 10, at BRAC Centre in Mohakhali, Dhaka, between BRAC and the Infrastructure Development Company Limited (IDCOL).

The agreement was signed by BRAC’s Executive Director Asif Saleh and IDCOL’s Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer Alamgir Morshed, on behalf of their respective organizations.

Also present at the signing ceremony were Head of Renewable Energy Programme Md. Enamul Karim Pavel, Assistant Vice President of Renewable Energy Project at IDCOL Md. Ashaduzzaman, Chief Financial Officer of Urban Development and Disaster Risk Management at BRAC Md. Sabbir Ahmed, and Director of Climate Change at BRAC Md. Liaquat Ali.

Under the agreement, IDCOL will supply a total of 4.06 megawatts of electricity to BRAC through these solar installations. The project, jointly financed by BRAC and IDCOL, will cover 32 BRAC establishments across 21 districts in Bangladesh. The capacity of each solar installation will vary depending on the size and operational needs of the respective facilities. Some of these systems are planned to generate up to 511 kilowatts.

IDCOL will also provide technical support to facilitate successful implementation of the project.

Through this initiative, BRAC, together with BRAC Enterprises, Ayesha Abed Foundation, and BRAC University, is moving toward more extensive utilization of renewable energy resources. In alignment with the government’s Net Metering Policy, any surplus electricity generated from these solar systems will be fed into the national grid. This will allow BRAC to receive credit or financial benefit in return.
