Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A.M.M. Nasir Uddin has warned netizens against potential misuse of artificial intelligence (AI) to spread propaganda or misinformation on social media regarding votes and candidates during the upcoming national election.

He urged everyone to remain vigilant and stated, “Technology must be used for benefits, not abuse.”

The CEC made these remarks on Monday, November 2, after attending a security drill for polling stations and the concluding training session of Ansar and VDP members ahead of the national election.

A.M.M. Nasir Uddin remarked, “Bangladesh now stands at a critical juncture. The direction in which the country will move depends entirely on the forthcoming national election.”

He emphasized that, “It is impossible to ensure a fair election without the cooperation of political parties.” He further informed that around one million people will be involved in various electoral activities this time. Moreover, provisions have been made for incarcerated voters and expatriate Bangladeshis to register and cast their votes through an app.

Highlighting the vital contribution of the Ansar force, the CEC added, “The role of Ansar members in the election is extremely important. In terms of numbers, it is the largest force. Therefore, it will not suffice to perform only routine duties—they must go beyond the usual to fulfill their responsibilities.”
