Chinese technology brand Honor is set to introduce an innovative feature in its upcoming smartphone—a fold-out or retractable camera. Unlike conventional phones, where cameras are mounted on the front or back panels, Honor’s new design places the camera on a mechanical arm that extends outward when needed, reports Engadget.

CNBC notes that this unusual design primarily showcases Honor’s artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities. The company is investing $10 billion in AI development over the next five years, and this phone represents a tangible application of that investment.

Honor has not yet revealed the phone’s name or specifications, but it is expected to be fully unveiled at next year’s Mobile World Congress.

Previously, Honor launched ultra-slim foldable phones and laptops with detachable webcams. Analysts suggest that this foldable camera design could offer a novel photography and video experience, though it carries potential risks of mechanical failure and higher production costs.
