Facebook Frees: Islamic Bank Page Restored
The official Facebook page of Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC has been restored nearly 10 hours after being compromised by hackers. The bank regained control of the page on the afternoon of October 3, with the page returning to normal operations by 4:00 PM. After restoration, the latest visible post on the page dates back to 10:00 PM on September 28.
A senior bank official stated that the page’s recovery took extra effort due to the weekend holiday. “Our IT team worked specifically to resolve the issue and successfully regained control in the afternoon. The Facebook page is now operating normally,” the official confirmed.
Earlier on Friday morning at 5:42 AM, the hackers had altered the page’s profile and cover photos to display a threatening message. They identified themselves as “Team MS 47OX” and warned of imminent large-scale cyberattacks on the bank’s Facebook page and website. By 10:30 AM, the page had disappeared from Facebook’s search results, causing widespread concern among customers and followers.
With the page now restored, the official noted that the anxiety among clients and the public has eased. “The hacking of our Facebook page is true. Our IT department has been working on the matter from the beginning, and control has now been fully restored,” the official added.
