Ballot papers in the upcoming Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) and hall union elections will be in the Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) format, enabling results to be announced within six to eight hours of voting, according to election officials.

Sources at the office of the DUCSU Returning Officer confirmed that the decision to use OMR ballots was taken to ensure faster result publication. Discussions have already been held with multiple OMR-operating firms, some of which have claimed they can finalize results within six hours, while others require up to eight hours.

University administrators believe that the use of OMR ballots will not only simplify the result-processing system but also guarantee greater transparency in both the voting and counting phases.

Notably, the hall union elections are scheduled for September 9 as part of the broader DUCSU polls. Campaigns on the campus have already gained momentum in anticipation of the vote.
