Legal Notice Lands: Lawyer Warns Toni Over Alleged Obscenity on Facebook

A legal notice has been issued against e-commerce entrepreneur Robaiyat Fatema Toni for allegedly spreading obscenity through her Facebook live sessions. The notice, sent on Sunday by Advocate Md. Abdul Kader (A.K. Faisal), accuses Toni of using vulgar language and making indecent gestures in violation of social and moral norms. She has been given three days to respond.

The legal notice instructs Toni to refrain from creating and sharing any further obscene content. It also demands the immediate removal of all such videos already published on social media platforms.

The notice further warns that “if she continues to engage in such behavior despite the instructions, strict legal action will be taken against her in accordance with prevailing laws.”

Toni, who runs an online business under the brand name ‘Sunbees by Toni’, has been criticized in recent times for her controversial public appearances. Speaking to journalists about the notice, A.K. Faisal said, “Toni has repeatedly used language and gestures in her Facebook live sessions that go against societal, familial, and religious values. Her statements reflect contempt towards women, and she has even issued threats such as ‘stripping someone and beating them’ — all of which blatantly violate social decency.”

He added, “If e-commerce becomes saturated with such obscenity, what kind of future are we creating for our nation and the users of social media? What lessons are young people taking from this? I want to warn not just her, but everyone spreading vulgarity online — please stop this. Or else, we will take proper legal action against you.”

Prior to sending the legal notice, A.K. Faisal had already publicly urged Toni to delete her offensive content.

Calling on entrepreneurs to follow proper e-commerce guidelines when running their social media pages, the lawyer said, “Please avoid obscene, abusive, and offensive language. As a legal professional, I will take appropriate action against anyone who promotes such vulgarity.”

Notably, in 2023, the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection raided Toni’s showroom ‘Sunbees by Toni’ at Police Plaza in Dhaka, following allegations of consumer rights violations.

Robaiyat Fatema Toni has long drawn public attention through her outspoken comments and live videos on social media. However, with this issue escalating into legal territory, a fresh round of controversy has now been ignited.
