Rongila Kitab Reigns at 26th Meril-Prothom Alo Awards

The web series Rongila Kitab has been crowned the Best Web Series of the year at the 26th Meril-Prothom Alo Awards. The event took place on Friday evening at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Center in Agargaon, Dhaka, where the awards were presented to the winners in the presence of prominent figures from the entertainment industry.
Writer Salzar Rahman won the Best Screenplay award for his work on Kalpurush, while filmmaker Nuhash Humayun was awarded Best Director for his direction of 2ṣ, a web series produced for the OTT platform Chorki. Actor Mosharraf Karim earned the Best Actor award for his performance in Adhunik Bangla Hotel, and Jinnat Ara was named Best Actress for her role in Sinpat.
Despite being nominated in the Best Screenplay category, Gultekin Khan, mother of Nuhash Humayun, did not take home the award. Her son, however, surpassed Salzar Rahman and others to win Best Director. Rongila Kitab, a Hoichoi Original series directed by Anam Biswas, triumphed over both Kalpurush and Sinpat to win the Critics’ Award for Best Web Series. The award was presented to Hoichoi Bangladesh’s Sakib R. Khan by actress Afsana Mimi and director Ashfaque Nipun. Director Kazi Asad received Mosharraf Karim’s award on his behalf.
Veteran actor and civil engineering graduate Abul Hayat received the Lifetime Achievement Award. A documentary highlighting his illustrious career was screened at the event, and the award was presented by actress Dilara Zaman.
The first segment of the award ceremony was hosted by Afzal Hossain. The second part was co-hosted by Afran Nisho and Tasnia Farin, marking their debut as presenters for the Meril-Prothom Alo Awards. The evening opened with a welcoming speech from Anisul Hoque, Associate Editor of Prothom Alo, followed by a greeting address from Malik Mohammad Saeed, CEO of Square Toiletries.
