The much-anticipated release of Grand Theft Auto VI has been postponed, extending the wait for fans. Rockstar Games announced in a statement on X that the game is now scheduled for release on May 26, 2026. The title was previously expected to launch in the final quarter of 2025, according to a report from the Associated Press (AP).

Expressing regret over the delay, the company stated, "With every game we release, we always aim to exceed players’ expectations — and Grand Theft Auto VI will be no different. Please trust that we are taking the time necessary to deliver the highest quality experience possible."

The delay had an immediate financial impact, as shares of Rockstar’s parent company, Take-Two Interactive, fell nearly 7% on Friday.

The game’s early buzz began in 2023 when a trailer leak sparked widespread discussion online. The trailer featured Lucia, a female lead set in Vice City, inspired by Miami. However, it remains unclear whether the delay will lead to any changes in the game's storyline or character development.
