Bagerhat Brutality: Three Arrested for Alleged Gang Rape of SIM Saleswoman

Police have arrested three young men in connection with the alleged gang rape of a female SIM card sales agent working for mobile operator Robi in Bagerhat. The arrests were made on Thursday night, and a formal case was filed by the victim on Friday (April 4) afternoon.

According to Md. Shamim Hossain, Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle), “Three individuals have been arrested based on the victim’s identification. A case has been filed against them. The woman is currently under police protection. We are also investigating whether others were involved in the incident.”

The arrested individuals are:

• Sajib Das (19), son of Paritosh Das

• Likhan Das (20), son of Kingkor Das

• Sheikh Nazrul Islam, son of Ilias Hossain

All are residents of Karori village, under Rakhalgachhi Union in Bagerhat Sadar Upazila. Police have produced the accused before the court.

According to the case statement, the victim, who sells Robi SIM cards, received a call on Thursday evening from someone claiming interest in buying a SIM and asking her to meet at the C&B Bazaar area. She arrived at the location around 8:00 PM, but no one approached her for a purchase. After waiting for some time, she began walking back home.

While crossing the C&B Bazaar area and approaching the eastern side of a concrete bridge on the Khulna-Bagerhat highway, a man suddenly gagged her and dragged her beneath the bridge. There, three individuals allegedly gang-raped her and filmed the assault.

Police made the arrests based on the victim’s identification of the accused. The investigation is ongoing.
