Professor Dr. Kazi Delowar Hossain, Dean of the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET), has been assigned the routine duties of the Vice-Chancellor. He received this charge as Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Sheikh Shariful Alam traveled to Dhaka to attend a meeting of the University Grants Commission (UGC). The report was filed by Md. Rakib Hasan.
The routine charge was communicated via an email message on Sunday, November 1, 2026. In the message, the Vice-Chancellor stated that he would be in Dhaka on November 2 to participate in a government UGC meeting. To maintain normal administrative and academic activities of the university during this period, Professor Delowar Hossain was requested and empowered to carry out the routine administrative and academic responsibilities of the Vice-Chancellor in addition to his own duties, in accordance with statutory provisions.
It was further stated that the responsibility took effect from the afternoon of November 1. Professor Delowar Hossain will continue to discharge these duties until the Vice-Chancellor returns to the workplace and resumes charge on the evening of November 2.
When contacted regarding the matter, Professor Dr. Kazi Delowar Hossain cut the call, describing it as “a regular issue”.
Meanwhile, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Sheikh Shariful Alam stated, “I am traveling to Dhaka for official work. In my absence, Professor Dr. Delowar Hossain, Dean of the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering, will perform the routine duties.”
