Minister for Education and Primary and Mass Education Dr. A N M Ehsanul Hoque Milan stressed the necessity of building sustainable and climate-resilient agricultural systems to tackle future global challenges. He made these remarks as the chief guest during the inaugural ceremony of the 25th Conference of the Bangladesh Society of Agronomy, held at the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council (BARC) auditorium.

Delivering his address, the Minister stated, “We have achieved remarkable progress in agricultural production. However, future challenges extend beyond merely increasing output; we must adapt to limited resources, climate change, and evolving technologies. We must focus on maximizing yield per plot, minimizing costs, enhancing quality, and ensuring environmental sustainability.”

Reflecting on the bridge between research and practical farming, he noted that while scientists and researchers publish numerous papers and innovate new technologies annually, it is crucial to measure how many of these innovations actually reach root-level farmers. He added that agricultural universities must not remain mere degree-awarding institutions, but rather strengthen their roles as centers of innovation, problem-solving, and sectoral transformation.

Highlighting the need for a skilled workforce in a modern agricultural economy, the Minister identified key technical domains such as agricultural machinery operation, irrigation technology, and food processing. He emphasized that Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) plays a pivotal role in building these requisite competencies.

Presided over by Dr. A K M Ruhul Amin, President of the Bangladesh Society of Agronomy, the conference featured Barind Multipurpose Development Authority (BMDA) Chairman Agronomist Md. Hasan Zafir Tuhin, BARC Executive Chairman Dr. Md. Abdus Salam, and Rajshahi University Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Alim as special guests.
