BO Accounts, Portfolios at Fingertips
CDBL Plans Mobile App This October
- CDBL is testing a new mobile app for October launch
- Investors can view BO accounts, portfolios, transactions and notifications directly
- CDBL is modernizing infrastructure to strengthen security, accuracy and disaster recovery
Bangladesh’s capital-market investors are set to gain direct mobile access to their BO accounts and portfolios as Central Depository Bangladesh Limited (CDBL) prepares to launch a new app this October. The app, currently under testing, is designed to bring account details, transaction updates and notifications into one digital platform. CDBL is also upgrading its hardware and technology infrastructure to improve investor-data security, accuracy and service reliability.
CDBL Managing Director Md. Abdul Motaleb disclosed the plan at a seminar on Wednesday, October 7, held as part of World Investor Week 2026. CDBL and Central Counterparty Bangladesh Limited (CCBL) jointly organized the seminar. World Investor Week is a global campaign focused on investor education and protection, with digital deception and scam awareness among its 2026 themes.
Abdul Motaleb said the new mobile app is currently in the testing phase. CDBL is trying to launch it officially within October. Through the app, investors will be able to directly view detailed information about their BO, or Beneficiary Owners, accounts and portfolios.
He said investors currently receive information through SMS and email when their accounts record debits or other transactions. Similar notifications will also be available through the new app. This will allow investors to access important investment-related information more easily.
Abdul Motaleb said CDBL is prioritizing technology modernization to ensure investor-data security and transparency. As part of the initiative, the organization is replacing its older hardware and technology systems with faster, safer and stronger infrastructure.
CDBL is also working to improve the accuracy of investor information. For this purpose, it is coordinating with brokers and DPs to update mobile numbers, email addresses and other necessary BO account information. Accurate data will make it easier to deliver dividends and other benefits to the rightful investors while reducing opportunities for fraud.
Describing CDBL’s operations, Abdul Motaleb said the institution currently has around 1.67 million BO accounts. Services are provided through approximately 560 DPs. Each BO account represents an investor who has entered the capital market with personal savings. Ensuring the security of their assets and information is therefore one of CDBL’s key responsibilities.
He also said CDBL is working to establish a Disaster Recovery, or DR, site. The facility could become operational by the end of this year or early next year.
At the seminar, the CDBL managing director urged investors to remain alert against online scams and rumours. He stressed the importance of verifying information before investing, understanding investment risks and diversifying investments.
