Elon Musk Announces Renaming of SpaceX AI Division to SpaceXSI
Responding to a call from U.S. President Donald Trump, Elon Musk has announced that he will rename the artificial intelligence (AI) division of his technology company SpaceX. From now on, the company’s “SpaceXAI” division will be known as “SpaceXSI.”
The decision was primarily prompted by Donald Trump’s recent stance in favor of using the term “super intelligence” instead of “artificial intelligence.”
Musk confirmed the matter in response to a user’s question on social media platform X. The user asked whether SpaceXAI would be renamed SpaceXSI.
In response, Musk wrote briefly, “Yes, we will make this change.” However, he did not provide details about when the change would take effect or what form it would take.
Trump’s Announcement at the United Nations
Last month, U.S. President Donald Trump called for changing the terminology for the technology in a speech to the United Nations General Assembly. He said the word “super” was much more precise and appropriate than the word “artificial.” At the time, he announced that U.S. government documents would use “super intelligence,” or “SI” for short, instead of artificial intelligence, and urged the international community to adopt the terminology as well.
Subsequently, the U.S. administration formally adopted procedures regarding the matter. Following Trump’s position, leading technology entrepreneurs such as Elon Musk have now shown policy-level support for the approach by renaming their own companies or divisions.
Implementation and Current Situation
International news agency Reuters reported that despite Elon Musk’s announcement, the organization’s account name on the X platform had not been changed immediately. SpaceX also has not officially commented on the matter.
Earlier this year, Musk merged his artificial intelligence initiative, “xAI,” with the core structure of SpaceX. Since then, the organization had been operating under the name “SpaceXAI.”
Musk’s latest announcement makes it clear that the company is now moving toward a new phase of technology in line with the terminology adopted by the U.S. administration.
