Commemorating humanity's entry into the space age and the genesis of satellite communications, the 69th anniversary of the historic launch of Sputnik-1 was celebrated through ‘SputnikFest 2026’. Organized at the Russian House in Dhaka in collaboration with the Bangladesh Astronomical Association, the science convention celebrated the October 4, 1957 launch by the Soviet Union that established modern orbital mechanics and space exploration.

According to official sources, the event held on Sunday evening, October 4, 2026, brought together school and college students from across Dhaka as well as institutions outside the capital. The gathering provided aspiring young researchers, educators, and amateur astronomers with direct exposure to astrophysical advancements and aerospace sciences.

The symposium featured a curated historical and contemporary photography exhibition tracing Sputnik-1 and modern deep-space missions, a student science quiz contest, technical seminars detailing Russian orbital missions, a certificate award ceremony, and a hands-on sky observation camp utilizing optical telescopes for night-sky stargazing.

The technical seminar convened prominent academic figures from the scientific community, featuring addresses by Professor Dr. Mohammad Zillur Rahman from the Department of Physics at BUET, Professor Dr. Rehena Nasreen from the Department of Mathematics at BUET, Mashhurul Amin, Chairman of the Bangladesh Astronomical Association, and Alexandra Khlevnoy, Director of the Russian House in Dhaka. The speakers unpacked core concepts in physics and observational astronomy, urging students to pursue advanced research in aerospace frontiers.

Addressing the youth, Russian House Director Alexandra Khlevnoy detailed fully funded Russian Government scholarship programs available for Bangladeshi students. She highlighted advanced academic tracks in aerospace engineering, astrophysics, observational astronomy, and cutting-edge applied technologies at leading Russian universities.
