Mozilla, the open-source browsing platform, has introduced major visual changes to the interface of its flagship browser, Firefox. The new design, rolling out to desktop and mobile users, brings back the long-awaited Compact Mode.

The feature allows users to reduce the size of the browser’s toolbar and tabs, creating more space for viewing websites. As part of its broader modernization efforts, Mozilla has also refreshed the browser’s themes, icons and colour schemes. The changes are designed to make the browsing experience more visually appealing and consistent with recent features, such as the generative AI toggle.

Theme Picker, Customization and Browsing Features

The redesigned interface introduces a new Theme Picker, allowing users to change background wallpapers and personalize the browser’s appearance according to their preferences.

The New Tab screen also makes it easier to organize and pin shortcuts to frequently visited websites. To improve browsing efficiency, productivity features such as tab groups, split view and vertical tabs have been positioned for quick access without crowding the main screen.

Simplified Privacy Settings and Performance

Alongside the visual redesign, Mozilla has made security and privacy controls easier to find. Each customization option has been designed without compromising the browser’s core speed or performance.

The company has also placed particular emphasis on improving accessibility to accommodate visually impaired users and people with diverse needs. The updated version of Firefox has already begun rolling out worldwide across Windows, Mac, Android and iOS platforms.
