After launching the feature on iOS and iPhone, popular music streaming platform Spotify has now made its artificial intelligence (AI)-powered ‘Running Mode’ available to Android users. The feature allows users to automatically create playlists tailored to their music preferences and running rhythm while running or exercising.

For now, Android users in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and Sweden can access the feature directly from Spotify’s ‘Fitness Hub’.

Customization and Beat Matching Features

The new feature offers users 25 different presets based on various workout and music categories. Users can set the duration of their run and activate the ‘Beat Matching’ feature to maintain a specific pace.

The Beat Matching feature synchronizes the rhythm or beat of songs with the user’s running pace. In addition, users can choose whether to turn on or off necessary audio instructions, or ‘audio cues’.

The Fusion of AI and Fitness

Spotify has enhanced the new Running Mode based on an initial experiment launched in 2018 and its AI-powered ‘Prompted Playlists’ feature, introduced earlier in 2026.

The technology company said one of the most popular prompts among users on its platform was finding music for fitness or exercise. Taking this strong demand into consideration, Spotify has integrated AI technology with music streaming and workout features.
