Meta’s Muse Climbs to No. 2 on US App Store
Meta’s new artificial intelligence-powered agent app, “Muse,” has quickly risen to second place on the US App Store following its launch. According to market research firm Sensor Tower, the app has been downloaded more than 83,000 times on iOS since its launch in the US market.
Although Muse climbed from fourth to second place on iOS, its growth has been somewhat slower compared with Meta’s earlier apps Threads, which recorded 4.3 million downloads on its first day, and Meta AI, which had 108,000 downloads on its first day. Even ChatGPT averaged around 83,300 downloads per day during its first week after launch, a figure that took Muse twice as long to reach.
Android and Other Platforms
Despite its strong position on iOS, Muse is still lagging on the Google Play Store, where it currently ranks 338th in the Productivity category. However, the app is also accessible through the web and WhatsApp, and those users are not included in the download figures.
Meta considers “agentic AI”—technology capable of automatically performing tasks on behalf of users—to be part of its future. The company views the technology as one of its major diplomatic and strategic moves, comparable to its earlier metaverse announcement.
Competition and Privacy Challenges
In the agentic AI market, Meta is facing competition from Google’s “Gemini Spark” and Anthropic’s “Claude Cowork,” while the new $2.5 billion platform “Instinct,” which performs tasks through text messages, has emerged as another major rival.
Instinct is rapidly gaining ground by recently securing $350 million in funding and adding agent-to-agent communication capabilities and features such as Stripe and 1Password. Meanwhile, Meta has launched the new agent app, which relies heavily on users’ personal data, amid a recent $18 billion legal settlement and longstanding controversies surrounding data privacy.
