Nvidia CEO Tells Trump: “We Won’t Slow Down AI”

While speaking at the All-In Summit in Los Angeles, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, head of the world’s leading chipmaker, received a direct phone call from US President Donald Trump. In the presence of technology investors on the stage, Huang put the call on speakerphone, allowing the entire auditorium to hear the conversation.

The discussion between the two focused on the recently debated issue of slowing the development of artificial intelligence (AI). During the call, President Trump strongly opposed efforts to slow AI development. In response, Jensen Huang assured him, saying, “You’re absolutely right, sir. We will not let AI slow down in any way.”

The Debate Over Slowing AI Development and Political Positions

Recently, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei proposed slowing the development of AI models somewhat in light of the potential risks to humanity and safety concerns surrounding the technology. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and xAI chief Elon Musk supported the proposal.

However, Jensen Huang and Donald Trump have taken a different position. Trump has made it clear that efforts to halt technological development are essentially an attempt to strengthen political rivals and China, rather than a genuine safety initiative.

Dismissing related safety concerns as a “false propaganda campaign” or deception, Trump said the United States must maintain its global leadership in the artificial intelligence market.

Data Center Debate and Assurances from the US Administration

Public opposition to the construction of AI infrastructure and data centers is growing in the United States. According to a recent Gallup poll, nearly 70 percent of Americans oppose the construction of new data centers in their communities, citing fears of environmental damage and rising living costs.

Trump and his supporters argue that this opposition to data centers is part of an effort to obstruct US economic growth.

Toward the end of the conversation, Trump acknowledged the need to remain mindful of the responsible use of resources, but stressed that the emerging technology industry must not be allowed to stagnate for that reason. He also assured the AI industry of the full support of the US government for its continued advancement.
