For the first time in the country, the Highway Police is set to introduce an artificial intelligence (AI)-based ‘Auto Fine System’ to monitor vehicle movement and enforce traffic laws on national highways. The system will be officially launched on August 18 on the Dhaka–Chattogram Highway.
According to Highway Police sources, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed will inaugurate the initiative on Tuesday (August 18) at the Meghna Toll Plaza area.
Under the new system, traffic violations such as overspeeding, illegal parking, and wrong-way driving will be automatically detected through AI-powered cameras installed along the highway, said, Gazipur Highway Region Superintendent of Police Muhammad Rahmat Ullah.
Once a violation is detected, an SMS containing the case details will be automatically sent to the registered mobile number of the vehicle owner. Fines can then be paid through mobile financial services such as bKash, Nagad, and others.
Authorities said the system will ensure faster detection of violations, improved data storage, and a more transparent, efficient, and accurate fine collection process.
The initiative is also expected to play a significant role in improving road safety, restoring traffic discipline, and reducing road accidents.
The Highway Police has sought cooperation from passengers, vehicle owners, and transport workers for the successful implementation of the system.
