A total of 409 engineers of the Public Works Department have been transferred and posted through a lottery process.
The transferred engineers include 152 assistant engineers (civil), 67 assistant engineers (electrical/mechanical), 135 sub-divisional engineers (civil), and 55 sub-divisional engineers (electrical/mechanical).

The transfers and postings were conducted through a lottery on Sunday, August 16,, at the conference room of the Public Works Department headquarters in Segunbagicha.

Among the assistant engineers from both civil and electrical/mechanical disciplines, 100 were posted to various offices under the Dhaka division, 20 to Rajshahi, 34 to Chattogram, 20 to Khulna, 12 to Barishal, seven to Sylhet, nine to Mymensingh and 17 to Rangpur.

For sub-divisional engineers from both disciplines, 79 were posted to various offices under the Dhaka division, 18 to Rajshahi, 32 to Chattogram, 20 to Khulna, 10 to Barishal, nine to Sylhet, seven to Mymensingh and 15 to Rangpur.
The Public Works Department said the lottery was organised to ensure transparency, neutrality and discipline in the transfer and posting process.

Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Public Works Md. Sarwar Alam, Additional Chief Engineer of the Public Works Department Kazi Md. Firoz Hasan, Superintending Engineers Muhammad Sarwar Jahan and Swapan Chakma were present during the lottery process.
Additional Chief Engineers of the Public Works Department Md. Abul Khair and Ashraful Haque, Deputy Secretaries Khan Md. Nazmus Shoaib and Md. Abu Naser, along with other engineers, were also present.

Earlier, on July 30, a total of 767 sub-assistant engineers (civil) of the Public Works Department were transferred through a lottery. On August 3, another 254 sub-assistant engineers (electrical/mechanical) were transferred through the same process.

The lottery-based transfer and posting process is intended to reduce discretionary influence and establish a more systematic approach to the deployment of engineers. The actual implementation, however, will depend on the relevant administrative orders and subsequent procedures.
