Government Prioritizes Technical Education Alongside Academic Learning

2 August, Sunday: Minister for Women and Children Affairs as well as Social Welfare, Professor Dr. A Z M Zahid Hossain, stated that the government is laying special emphasis on technical education alongside institutional learning. He highlighted that expanding technical and vocational education is imperative to fully utilize the demographic dividend and transform the youth into globally competitive skilled human resources.

The Minister made these remarks during the inauguration of a project titled 'Poverty Alleviation through Employment Generation for Marginalized Communities', jointly organized by the Department of Social Services and UCEP Bangladesh in Mirpur, Dhaka.

He noted that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman envisions an inclusive, humanitarian Bangladesh where every citizen can live with dignity. The Minister stressed that in addition to technical proficiency, mastering a third language beyond Bengali and English is essential. Giving special attention to the caregiving sector and exporting skilled labor will both uplift families and boost national remittance inflow.

The project aims to address Fourth Industrial Revolution challenges by creating decent, tech-enabled employment for underprivileged youths—including impoverished men and women, persons with disabilities, hijra communities, madrasa students, coastal residents, and participants of the 'July 2024 Movement'. Under this project, 7,500 individuals across 19 districts will receive training in 17 distinct trades.

Presided over by UCEP Board of Governors member Dr. Mohammad Abdul Mazid, the event was attended by Social Welfare Secretary Dr. Mohammad Abu Eusuf, Director General of the Department of Social Services Shah Mohammad Mahbub, and Executive Director of UCEP Bangladesh Dr. Md. Abdul Karim.
