In a monumental achievement for Bangladesh’s technology and engineering landscape, 'BRACU Duburi', the autonomous underwater robotics team from BRAC University, has secured the 8th position globally at 'RoboSub 2026', one of the world's most prestigious robotics competitions.

Organized annually by the US-based robotics organization 'RoboNation', the main event took place at the Woollett Aquatics Center in Irvine, California. Competing against 58 elite teams from world-renowned universities and research institutes, BRACU Duburi achieved this milestone by outperforming prestigious institutions such as Stanford University, Carnegie Mellon University, and Duke University.

Recognized as Bangladesh's pioneer Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) development team, BRACU Duburi participated with its primary AUV named 'Duburi 4.5' alongside a companion support robot, 'Dubomini 2.0'. In addition to their overall 8th-place finish—the highest among the three Bangladeshi teams participating this year—the team excelled in sub-categories, securing 6th place in Technical Presentation, 11th in Technical Design Report, and 12th in the Team Video category.

Reflecting on the grueling journey, Tahirah Jannat Mim, spokesperson for BRACU Duburi, shared that the team overcame severe hurdles including visa complexities, equipment damages, and member illnesses right before the event.

Supporting the team's international campaign, HONOR Bangladesh stepped in as a key partner. Abdullah Al Mamun, Head of Business at HONOR Bangladesh, expressed pride in the team's success: "HONOR is proud to stand beside initiatives that inspire young innovators to dream big and harness technology for new possibilities. Partnering with BRACU Duburi aligns with our commitment to developing next-generation engineering talent and advancing technology-driven growth in Bangladesh."

Industry analysts view BRACU Duburi's landmark victory as a testament to the immense potential of Bangladeshi youth in robotics, artificial intelligence, embedded systems, and marine engineering on the global stage.
