Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan has purchased books using 'Bangla QR' code at Batighar and Prothoma Prokashon, two prominent bookstores at Aziz Super Market in Shahbagh, Dhaka. He made the tech-based transaction on Saturday afternoon. Arif Hossain Khan, Spokesperson and Executive Director of Bangladesh Bank, and Md. Ehteshamul Huq Khan, Managing Director of Dutch-Bangla Bank, along with senior officials from both institutions, were present at the event.
During the visit, the Minister urged all financial institutions, including Dutch-Bangla Bank's 'Rocket' mobile banking service, and the general public to move away from cash transactions and embrace the technology-driven 'Bangla QR' code system.
"Before using this technology, a tech-naive person cannot comprehend how simple transactions can become. We should increase the use of technology in every sector. Bangla QR code is a reliable medium for transactions," the Minister said.
He further noted, "The current government, led by Prime Minister Tareq Rahman, is gradually driving the country toward a tech-dependent modern Bangladesh. A vital part of this transformation is modernizing the overall transaction system and making it cashless. Within the tenure of this government, the country will achieve the highest level of technology-driven digital transactions."
Critiquing past administrations, the Information Minister said that many countries are far ahead of Bangladesh in tech-based transactions. Due to the policy delays or failures of previous governments, it was not possible to fully connect the state and its people with this modern technology for so long. The government of Tareq Rahman has broken this stagnation, and today marks the official journey of cashless transactions through 'Bangla QR' code.
Sharing his personal experience, the Minister stated, "I have been a regular customer of these bookstores at Aziz Super Market for many years. I have always bought books here with cash. But today, as a buyer, I scanned the 'Bangla QR' code and bought books using cashless technology for the first time in my life."
The Information Minister expressed special thanks and gratitude to Prime Minister Tareq Rahman and the Governor of Bangladesh Bank on behalf of the public for this digital initiative.
