Bangladesh’s leading telecommunications service provider, Grameenphone, has entered into a strategic partnership with garment-focused retail network Apon Bazar to expand digital connectivity and telecommunications services for workers in the country’s ready-made garments (RMG) sector through a retail distribution model.

Under the agreement, Apon Bazar will serve as a distribution partner for Grameenphone by introducing a shop-in-shop retail model across its outlets.

The collaboration aims to make Grameenphone’s products and services more accessible to RMG workers, a large workforce with growing digital needs that has traditionally remained underserved. Customers visiting Apon Bazar outlets will now be able to access a range of Grameenphone services, including SIM activation, SIM replacement, scratch cards, data packs, voice bundles, and combo packages.

According to a press release issued on Thursday, the agreement was recently signed at GP House by Mohammad Sharif Mahmud Khan, Head of Sales and Distribution at Grameenphone, and Sheikh Saif Al Rashid, Founder and Managing Director of Apon Bazar.

The signing ceremony was attended by Grameenphone Chief Marketing Officer Farha Naz Zaman, Head of Distribution SK. Iftekhar Ahmed, and Head of Sales Planning Md. Nasiruzzaman Chowdhury. Representing Apon Bazar were Director (Business) Yasir Arafat, Operations Lead Rezwanul Ahsan Rupom, Manager (External and Corporate Affairs) Kaniz Ahmed, and Project Coordinator Jinia Ibnat.

Commenting on the partnership, Farha Naz Zaman said, “At Grameenphone, we strive to make digital connectivity more accessible and relevant for people from every segment of society. Through our partnership with Apon Bazar, we are bringing our products and services closer to workers in the ready-made garments industry. They can now access telecommunications services at the same locations where they shop for daily essentials. This initiative reflects our ongoing commitment to making our offerings more accessible, empowering communities through connectivity, and supporting Bangladesh’s digital transformation.”

Sheikh Saif Al Rashid said, “We believe digital inclusion is no longer an added advantage—it is a prerequisite for economic empowerment. Our partnership with Grameenphone is designed to make affordable connectivity, digital services, and essential telecommunications products more accessible to industrial workers, helping reduce the digital divide. By leveraging the trust Apon has built among factories and workers, we aim to improve livelihoods and strengthen their long-term resilience.”
