A total of 177 students of the Faculty of Veterinary Science at Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) received surgical kit boxes as part of an initiative to enhance their practical clinical training.

The distribution ceremony was held at 3:30 PM on Monday at the Syed Nazrul Islam Conference Hall of the university and was organized by the Department of Surgery and Obstetrics.

The event was presided over by Professor Dr. Md. Rafiqul Alam, Head of the Department of Surgery and Obstetrics. Acting Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. G. M. Mujibur Rahman attended the program as the chief guest, while Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Science and Syndicate Member Professor Dr. Md. Bahanur Rahman was present as the special guest.

University Proctor Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Alim, Student Affairs Adviser Dr. Md. Shahidul Haque, faculty members of the department, and students of the Veterinary Faculty were also present among others.

In his address, Acting Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. G. M. Mujibur Rahman described veterinary education as a specialized medical profession that plays a vital role in developing skilled human resources.

He noted that animal healthcare is a highly challenging field and emphasized that there is no alternative to gaining proficiency in surgery and medicine for success in the profession. He urged students to utilize the knowledge and experience gained through internships to become competent veterinary practitioners.

While speaking as the special guest, Professor Dr. Md. Bahanur Rahman said that merely possessing surgical kits and instruments is not enough; students must ensure their effective use in real-life clinical practice.

He encouraged students to actively participate in various hospital and clinical cases to develop themselves into skilled surgeons.

Professor Rahman also noted that a veterinary graduate must complete courses from 22 different departments, which prepares them for diverse and challenging professional responsibilities. He further highlighted that the Faculty of Veterinary Science at BAU has been ranked first in Bangladesh and 92nd in Asia in the SCImago Rankings.

In his concluding remarks, Professor Dr. Md. Rafiqul Alam stated that the quality of the GS Pack and surgical instruments provided through the kit boxes has been upgraded compared to previous years, with several new instruments added to support a wide range of surgical procedures.

He mentioned that while the budget for each kit box has increased from BDT 450 in 1984 to BDT 5,500 at present, it remains insufficient considering current demands. He called upon the university administration to increase allocations for the initiative in the interest of future students.
