A special training camp was held on Monday, May 11, in the seminar room of the Civil Engineering Department of Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET). The two-day training program, titled "Sanitation for Urban Low-Income Communities," was organized by the Civil Engineering Department in collaboration with the International Training Network of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET).

The training comprised a total of seven technical sessions. Thirty trainees from the 20th batch of CUET's Civil Engineering Department participated. Certificates were distributed among the participants upon completion of the training.

Speaking as the chief guest at the closing ceremony, CUET Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Mahmud Abdul Matin Bhuiyan stated that traditional sanitation systems are becoming ineffective in many cases due to floods, waterlogging, cyclones, and salinity. Therefore, there is no alternative to building sustainable sanitation systems. He emphasized the need for climate-resilient sanitation infrastructure, improved and environmentally friendly latrine systems, waste reuse and resource recovery technologies, and sustainable urban management. He added that through a combination of research, technological innovation, and practical field experience, a safe, inclusive, and sustainable sanitation system can be developed.

Professor Dr. Md. Riaz Akhtar Mallik, Head of the Civil Engineering Department of CUET, was present as a special guest at the event. Professor Dr. Asiful Haque, Dean of the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering, presided over the ceremony. Farzana Khan, a Research Associate in the Civil Engineering Department, served as the emcee.
