The latest update to the AI chatbot Gemini now enables users to generate files directly from the chatbot interface. Google’s chatbot can create files in various formats through the prompt bar—users simply need to state what they want, and the file will be generated instantly. By tapping the export button, the file can then be downloaded.

On Tuesday (April 28), Google announced this new feature. Beyond just Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel, Gemini can now generate files in formats such as PDF, TXT, RTF, CSV, Markdown, and even LaTeX, a system used for formatting scientific research papers.

Recently, OpenAI introduced a separate app for LaTeX journal formatting. However, Google has integrated this capability directly within Gemini. This feature is expected to be particularly beneficial for students and professionals in science and engineering fields.

According to Google, users previously had to go through the hassle of copying, pasting, and formatting information manually. With this update, files can now be generated directly and transferred into documents without additional effort.

Google claims that the feature is being rolled out to all Gemini users worldwide. Although Anthropic introduced a similar feature in its Claude last year, this update is being seen as a significant advancement for Gemini users.
