Flight operations at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport have been severely disrupted due to dense fog, forcing the diversion of at least eight international flights to alternative airports on Saturday morning, December 27, for safety reasons. This marks the second consecutive day the airport has been affected by heavy fog.

The information was confirmed to the media by Kawsar Mahmud, Public Relations Officer of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB).

According to CAAB, after failing to land on Dhaka’s runway, three flights were diverted to Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram, four flights to Kolkata Airport in India, and one flight to Bangkok, Thailand.

Airport authorities stated that once weather conditions improve, the diverted flights will be brought back to Dhaka and normal operations will resume. Airlines concerned are providing meals and hotel accommodation, where necessary, to passengers of significantly delayed flights in accordance with regulations.

Earlier, on Friday, December 26, five international flights were also diverted to Kolkata Airport due to similar weather conditions.
