Postal Poll Push: Over 800,000 Register for Votes via App
More than 800,000 voters have registered so far to cast postal ballots in the 13th National Parliamentary Election and referendum. In addition to expatriate Bangladeshis, government officials and employees assigned election duties, as well as public servants staying outside their home constituencies, are registering through the Postal Vote BD app.
According to the latest data published on the Election Commission (EC) website as of Saturday afternoon, December 27, a total of 800,872 voters have completed registration. Of them, 728,617 are male voters and 72,253 are female voters.
Among expatriate voters, Saudi Arabia tops the list with 162,993 registrations, followed by Qatar (59,582), Oman (46,143), Malaysia (43,829), United Arab Emirates (30,872) and the United States (26,073).
Within Bangladesh, 244,661 voters have registered under the “in-country postal vote” category.
District-wise, Cumilla leads with 71,143 registrations, followed by Dhaka (63,595), Chattogram (61,703), Noakhali (40,741), Sylhet (30,089) and Chandpur (28,315).
In terms of constituencies, the highest number of registrations came from Feni-3 (11,793), followed by Chattogram-15 (9,811), Cumilla-10 (9,466) and Noakhali-1 (9,365).
Expatriate voters, government employees, individuals assigned election duties and voters in legal custody can register through the Postal Vote BD app until December 31. The EC extended the registration deadline on Wednesday. Launched on November 18, the app allows expatriate Bangladeshis to register from 148 countries worldwide.
For registration, expatriate voters must use a mobile number issued in their country of residence.
