Gazipur Digital University solemnly commemorated July Martyrs’ Day on Wednesday, July 16, honoring Shaheed Abu Sayeed and other martyrs of the historic July Uprising. The day’s observance included a commemorative march, a discussion forum, and a prayer gathering held on the university campus in Kaliakair from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The program began with a symbolic procession led by the university’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Mohammad Abu Yusuf. The march started from the academic building, circled through the main roads of Kaliakair, and concluded back at the campus. Students, faculty members, administrative officials, and staff took part in the march.

At 11:00 a.m., a discussion session was held, presided over by the university’s Treasurer Professor Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain. The event featured reflections by teachers, students, and survivors of the July Movement. Among the honored guests were family members of Shaheed Abdullah Al Mamun from Kaliakair, including his two sisters and brother-in-law. The Vice-Chancellor attended as the chief guest.

During the session, Mamun’s elder sister shared a powerful and emotional account of his involvement in the movement and his tragic martyrdom on August 4, 2024. Her words deeply moved the audience, drawing attention to the profound cost of resistance.

In his remarks, Vice-Chancellor Dr. Mohammad Abu Yusuf stated, "There is no parallel in the world to sacrificing one’s life in the pursuit of justice." He added, "Abu Sayeed’s martyrdom transformed the quota reform movement into a full-blown people’s uprising. That moment determined the future course of the nation."

He emphasized, "One life is lost, and another steps forward to face the bullet. This kind of fearless resolve and selfless love for the country is unmatched globally." Dr. Yusuf paid homage to all martyrs of the July Uprising and extended heartfelt condolences to their families. On behalf of the university, he pledged to stand in solidarity with the local families of the fallen.

In his presidential address, Treasurer Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain remarked, "History cannot be silenced. Throughout time, those who attempted to suppress or distort history for personal gain have faced inevitable downfall. The people’s fury eventually finds its mark."

Registrar Ataur Rahman Khan delivered the welcome speech. Other speakers included Assistant Professor Syeda Zakia Naeem (Department of Educational Technology and Engineering), Lecturer Md. Sanaullah (General Education Department), Lecturer Md.
