Meta Moves to Minimize Misinformation and Maximize Originality

Meta has reportedly shut down nearly 10 million Facebook accounts in 2025 so far in a sweeping move to curb spam and content duplication. According to Asia Net News, the tech giant stated that the action aims to make Facebook pages more “qualitative, engaging, and relevant.”

The company announced that going forward, only original content will be prioritized. Meta’s blog post read: “Our goal is to completely stop the repeated posting of other people’s content without credit. Posting others’ videos, photos, or texts directly on the feed without permission or attribution is no longer acceptable.”

Meta also issued a strong warning that users engaging in unauthorized content reposting will be excluded from Facebook’s monetization programs and may experience reduced reach for their posts. “When copied videos are identified, steps will be taken to increase visibility for the original creators,” the company said.

To promote originality, Meta advised content creators to use proper titles and hashtags while avoiding third-party app watermarks. It also emphasized best practices to ensure content authenticity. Notably, YouTube recently announced a similar policy, reinforcing a broader industry shift towards content integrity and originality.
