Clash at PSTU During Altaf Hossain Chowdhury’s Visit

Two people were injured in a clash between rival supporters at Patuakhali Science and Technology University (PSTU) during the visit of BNP Central Vice Chairman and former Home and Commerce Minister Air Vice Marshal (Retd.) Altaf Hossain Chowdhury.

The incident took place on Sunday (23 February) around 11 a.m. on the PSTU campus. The injured include Upazila BNP Joint Organizing Secretary Md. Ibrahim, BNP leader Jasim Uddin Hawlader, and Matiur Rahman Dipu. After receiving initial treatment at Dumki Upazila Health Complex, Ibrahim was transferred to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital due to his deteriorating condition.

Following the incident, Matiur Rahman Dipu filed a written complaint with Dumki Police Station against several members of the opposing group.

According to sources, Altaf Hossain Chowdhury visited the PSTU campus to attend a preparatory meeting with the university administration ahead of University Day on 26 February. Supporters Jasim Uddin Hawlader, Ibrahim Khalil, and Matiur Rahman Dipu were invited to the event. However, a conflict erupted when Anwar Hossain Hawlader and his faction were not invited, leading to the clash that resulted in injuries.

BNP leader Anwar Hossain Hawlader commented, "The scuffle happened because dedicated leaders were not properly valued."

Upazila BNP President Md. Khalilur Rahman stated, "We, the Upazila BNP, were not informed about Altaf Hossain Chowdhury’s visit to Dumki or the PSTU campus."
