State Minister for ICT calls for Starlink service in Bangladesh
The State Minister for Information and Communication Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak has called upon US aerospace manufacturer Space X to launch Starlink satellite internet service in Bangladesh.
On Tuesday, a delegation led by the Deputy Chief Council of the Department of Commerce of the US Embassy in Dhaka, Mr. Joe Yang, went to meet the State Minister's office at the ICT Tower in Agargaon. He made this call through them.
Senior Attorney Joseph L. Gattuso of the General Counsel Office of the US Embassy in Dhaka, James S. Gardiner, Economic, Science and Technology Affairs Officer, and senior officials of the ICT Division were present.
During the meeting, Palak discussed the need for creating investment-friendly guidelines and policies to increase US investment in Bangladesh's technology market, the current status of information protection laws, ICT initiatives including OTT regulations, and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's promise and vision of building a Smart Bangladesh by 2041.
The meeting discussed various issues of mutual interest between the friendly United States and Bangladesh, especially how to keep Bangladesh's cyber sphere safe through cooperation by exchanging skills, knowledge and experience of members of the team working on US cyber security. Besides, the State Minister highlighted various activities under Bangladesh's DEIED, EDGE and SHIFT projects.
The State Minister shed light on various activities including the importance of cashless and inclusive society. He said that US investment in the technology market of Bangladesh will pave the way for the development of the digital economy of the two countries. He also mentioned that Bangladesh and the United States have many opportunities to work together with the same goals.
