MoU assesses grid-connected power for telecom infrastructure
EDOTCO, FloSolar Explore Renewable Energy Partnership
- The companies will assess renewable energy options for EDOTCO’s telecom infrastructure
- FloSolar will lead project development and financing; EDOTCO will assess sites and power demand
- A preliminary estimate projects 130 GWh of annual generation per 100 MWp
EDOTCO Bangladesh and FloSolar Solutions Limited have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to jointly assess the potential for developing grid-connected renewable energy generation to help meet the electricity needs of EDOTCO’s telecommunications infrastructure.
The partnership aims to increase the use of renewable electricity in EDOTCO’s telecom tower operations, diversify its energy sources, reduce carbon emissions and strengthen the long-term operational efficiency and resilience of its digital infrastructure.
Under the MoU, the two companies will assess the possibility of supplying renewable electricity generated by potential solar power projects to EDOTCO’s operations through the national grid. FloSolar will lead the identification of potential power-generation sites, grid connectivity and project development. EDOTCO will support the process by identifying suitable sites and assessing its electricity demand.
Under the proposed model, EDOTCO would be able to access renewable energy without making an upfront capital investment in power-generation infrastructure. FloSolar would be responsible for developing and financing potential projects. Implementation, however, will depend on feasibility assessments and the final commercial and regulatory terms. The companies expect the model could provide greater long-term predictability in energy costs.
Al Batuni Mohammad Sayed Ahmed, country managing director of EDOTCO Bangladesh, said, “As digital infrastructure continues to grow, how we power that infrastructure is increasingly important. By exploring renewable energy at scale, this collaboration marks another step in our decarbonization journey while strengthening the long-term resilience of our operations. We believe the future of connectivity must be both reliable and sustainable.”
Mustafa Azim Kasem Khan, founder and managing director of FloSolar Solutions Limited, said the partnership with EDOTCO created an opportunity to expand renewable energy across critical connectivity infrastructure.
“By combining FloSolar’s renewable-energy capabilities with EDOTCO’s infrastructure footprint, we aim to support cleaner and more resilient digital infrastructure and contribute to Bangladesh’s sustainable energy transition,” he added.
According to preliminary estimates, every 100 megawatts peak (MWp) of generation capacity could produce around 130 gigawatt-hours of renewable electricity annually. This could potentially avoid approximately 80,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions each year.
The actual generation and emissions reductions will depend on the final project configuration, the applicable grid emissions factor and the amount of grid electricity displaced by the renewable generation.
