132 People Donate Blood
Robi Blood Drive Sets Participation Record
- A total of 132 people donated blood at Robi’s latest drive
- Employees from several organisations joined the initiative
- Participants received access to six types of basic health checks
Robi Axiata PLC has organised a voluntary blood donation drive to support patients with thalassemia and other conditions requiring regular blood transfusions. The ‘Robi Blood Donation Drive 2026’, held at the company’s corporate office in Shanta Forum Tower in Dhaka, saw 132 people donate blood—the highest participation recorded at the company’s blood donation initiatives to date.
The programme was organised recently to mark National Voluntary Blood Donation and Posthumous Eye Donation Day. Held in collaboration with the Bangladesh Thalassemia Foundation, the initiative brought together employees from Robi, Shanta Holdings Limited, the RMG Sustainability Council (RSC) and various organisations within the Shanta Forum community.
The primary objective was to support thalassemia patients and others who depend on regular blood transfusions. Participants were also offered six types of basic health screenings free of charge.
Bangladesh observes National Voluntary Blood Donation and Posthumous Eye Donation Day every year on 2 November. Robi organised the drive to highlight the significance of the day and raise public awareness about voluntary blood donation. The initiative also aimed to encourage more people to donate blood regularly while supporting patients who depend on transfusions.
The event was attended by Ziad Shatara, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Robi Axiata PLC; Shahed Alam, Chief Corporate and Regulatory Officer; Muhammad Shoaib Baig, Chief People Officer; and Sharif Shah Jamal Raz, Director of Public Affairs and Sustainability. Professor Dr Syeda Masooma Rahman, Vice-Chairman of the Bangladesh Thalassemia Foundation, was also present.
Alongside its voluntary blood donation initiatives, Robi has been working to increase public awareness of thalassemia. On the occasion of World Thalassemia Day earlier this year, the company sent 10 million awareness messages to areas across the country with a high prevalence of the disease. The messages highlighted awareness, early detection and prevention.
Through such initiatives, Robi aims to promote social responsibility and contribute to the development of humanitarian values.
