As artificial intelligence (AI), data analysis and technical capabilities become increasingly important in the job market, BRAC’s Career Hub has brought employers and job seekers together to address the gap between workplace expectations and candidates’ professional readiness. The initiative, titled ‘Employers Meetup 2026’, was held on Saturday, 7 November, at the BRAC Learning Centre in Chattogram.
The event ran from 10:30 am to 2:00 pm and brought together representatives from 25 organisations, including Royal Cement, RSGT Bangladesh, Ispahani Group, Heidelberg Materials, Chittagong Stock Exchange, PHP Motors, Banglalink, Clifton Group, KSRM, A K Khan & Company, Summit Alliance Port Limited, YPSA and ISDE.
In his opening remarks, Mohammad Aliul Azim, Employment Manager of BRAC’s Skills Development Programme, highlighted BRAC’s target of creating employment opportunities for one million people between 2026 and 2030. He also emphasised the importance of developing a skilled workforce and establishing effective connections between job seekers and employers.
Afroza Khanam, Manager of the Career Hub’s Chattogram Centre, presented the programme’s activities and future plans. She said Career Hub staff had received certification in psychosocial counselling to provide more effective support to job seekers.
She also outlined the Career Hub University Model, under which memorandums of understanding have been signed with three universities. The initiative aims to prepare students for their careers through four stages, beginning in their first year and continuing until graduation.
Two successful Career Hub participants, Imon Barua and Jemima Ishrat Riju, also shared their experiences at the event.
During an open discussion, employers highlighted the growing importance of AI, data analysis, technical skills, punctuality, professional conduct and accountability in the current job market. They also stressed the need for long-term career planning, practical work experience and continuous professional development rather than focusing solely on securing immediate employment or income.
The participating employers expressed interest in working with Career Hub to create opportunities for internships, industry visits, job attachments and training programmes.
In his closing remarks, Zisan Barua, Employment and Activation Officer at Career Hub, thanked representatives of the 25 participating organisations for their active engagement and valuable feedback. He said the primary objective of the Employers Meetup was not merely to establish contacts with employers, but to build an effective bridge between the realities of the job market, employers’ expectations and job seekers’ preparedness.
He expressed optimism that such dialogue would help improve young people’s skills, expand employment opportunities and strengthen long-term partnerships between Career Hub and industries. He also called for continued collaboration and joint initiatives in the future.
The event was moderated by Mariam Akter Asma, Career Counselling Officer at Career Hub. Towards the end of the discussion, participating organisations were invited to join the upcoming Career Expo and present their respective job vacancies.
