Social media giant Meta is working on developing advanced “AI agents” to help users achieve their daily goals. The plan was revealed by the company’s Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg during a first-quarter earnings call on Wednesday (29 April).

Zuckerberg said these agents will go beyond traditional chatbots and will be capable of working around the clock to support users in both personal and business needs.

Two types of AI agents

According to Zuckerberg, Meta is focusing primarily on developing two categories of agents:

  • Personal agents: These will assist general users in achieving a wide range of life goals. In Zuckerberg’s words, the agent will understand a user’s intent and work relentlessly to help accomplish it.
  • Business agents: Designed mainly for entrepreneurs and businesses, these agents will help find new customers, serve existing ones, and utilize Meta’s tools to expand business operations.

Focus on ease of use

While some AI agents—such as those from “Opencl”—already exist in the market, they are often too complex for general users. Zuckerberg aims to remove this barrier. He said:

“Many AI agents exist in the market, but very few are something I would feel comfortable handing to my mother. Our goal is to build a version that is highly refined, where Meta handles all the complex infrastructure behind the scenes.”

Technological foundation: Muse Spark

These new agents are being built on top of the “Muse Spark” model, recently released by Meta Superintelligence Labs. It has also been reported that Zuckerberg is personally overseeing the development of his own “AI clone.”

When will it be available?

Zuckerberg did not specify a timeline for when these AI agents will be made available to general users. However, he emphasized that compared to existing complex AI tools, Meta’s agents will be significantly more intuitive and user-friendly.
