The Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment has termed as “rumor” the reports circulating on social media claiming that “Qatar is not issuing visas to Bangladeshi workers.” The ministry made the clarification in an official press release issued on Tuesday, October 21.

Md. Shefayet Hossain, Information and Public Relations Officer of the ministry, said that the claim—shared across social media and by certain media outlets under the headline “Qatar Stops Issuing Visas for Bangladeshi Workers”—is entirely false. “The matter has come to the attention of the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment. The ministry believes that such false information is a deliberate attempt by certain quarters to mislead the public,” he stated.

The ministry urged all citizens to avoid engaging with or spreading such baseless rumors.

Refuting the misinformation, the ministry confirmed that Qatar’s labor market remains fully open. Between September 2024 and September 2025, a total of 111,662 Bangladeshi workers were sent to Qatar, and the process of worker deployment continues as usual. At present, 425,681 Bangladeshi nationals are employed in the Gulf nation.

The statement further noted that misleading and fabricated claims about a so-called “free visa” system in Qatar have also come to the ministry’s attention. It clarified that “no such visa category exists in Qatar,” urging all concerned to remain cautious about such false and deceptive propaganda.
