Bangladesh Post is moving beyond traditional mail delivery by expanding into e-commerce logistics, digital tracking, parcel delivery and fulfilment services. Under the theme “One Postal Network, Infinite Possibilities”, World Post Day will be observed in Bangladesh on Friday, October 9. The Bangladesh Post Office will observe Postal Service Week nationwide from October 9 to 15, with letter-writing festivals, philatelic exhibitions and postal service fairs planned at universities across the country.

World Post Day 2026 comes as Bangladesh Post is working to transform itself into a modern, technology-driven and people-friendly postal and logistics service provider. The initiatives include stronger e-commerce and logistics capacity, digital tracking and tracing, post pickup and delivery, fulfilment centres, transportation of agricultural products and seasonal fruits, and entrepreneur-driven franchise post offices.

According to Bangladesh Post, about 811 tonnes of goods have been transported through Speed Post since March 2026. The fast and affordable parcel service is increasingly becoming an important transport channel for e-commerce businesses, small and medium enterprises, farmers and online merchants.

The department is also introducing franchise post offices in line with the government’s election commitments and its announced 180-day action plan. The initiative is expected to create local employment opportunities while expanding the postal service network.

International parcel transportation has also recorded growth. Bangladesh Post handled 243 tonnes of outbound parcels during the first three months of fiscal year 2025-26. The volume increased to 316 tonnes during the first three months of fiscal year 2026-27.

This represents an increase of 73 tonnes, or about 29.84 percent, over the same period a year earlier.

Bangladesh Post also played an important role in enabling 1,533,683 voters, including expatriate and domestic voters, to exercise their voting rights through postal ballots during the 13th parliamentary election held in February 2026.

To mark World Post Day, all Bangladesh Post offices at every level will keep postal services operational on October 9 and 10, except savings bank operations.

The Universal Postal Union (UPU) was established on October 9, 1874. In 1969, the UPU Congress held in Tokyo decided to observe October 9 as World Post Day in commemoration of the organisation’s founding. The day aims to raise public awareness about the role of postal services in everyday life, business and social and economic development.

The global postal sector is also undergoing rapid digital transformation. The UPU Strategy 2026–2029 identifies digitalisation, e-commerce, innovation and modern logistics as important elements in reshaping postal networks for the digital economy.

Under the theme “One Postal Network, Infinite Possibilities”, Bangladesh Post is working to deliver faster, affordable, reliable and diversified postal and logistics services to people across the country. The transformation is gradually connecting the traditional postal network with digital commerce, logistics and broader public service infrastructure.
