BSCL, CU Sign Satellite Technology MoU

Bangladesh Satellite Company Limited (BSCL) and the University of Chittagong have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to advance satellite technology, support the development of Bangladesh’s future Earth Observation (EO) satellite system and build skilled human resources in the sector. The agreement will create opportunities for joint research, training, knowledge sharing and technology exchange in Earth Observation satellite technology, satellite data and image processing, artificial intelligence and machine learning-based research, ocean monitoring, blue economy and disaster management.

The MoU was signed on Thursday, 24 September 2026, at the office of the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Chittagong. Professor Mohammad Al-Forkan, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Chittagong, signed the agreement on behalf of the university, while Dr. Imadur Rahman, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of BSCL, signed on behalf of the company. 

A key objective of the agreement is to utilise the Ocean Satellite Ground Station and research capabilities of the University of Chittagong’s Satellite Ocean Observation and Data Innovation Center (SODIC-CU) for the development of BSCL’s future Earth Observation Satellite System.

The collaboration will also support training for BSCL engineers and enhance their technical capacity to use Earth Observation satellite data. The two institutions will further cooperate in satellite data and image processing, as well as research based on artificial intelligence and machine learning.

The agreement will also facilitate participation in international Earth Observation programmes, exploration of international cooperation and funding opportunities for joint projects, and analysis of satellite data to determine Bangladesh’s future requirements for Earth Observation satellites.

The partnership is expected to strengthen Bangladesh’s Earth Observation and satellite-based ocean monitoring capabilities while expanding the use of satellite technology in marine resource management, disaster management and the blue economy. It will also broaden institutional cooperation between the university and the country’s national satellite company in research, technology development and skilled human resource development.

Also present at the signing ceremony were Professor Dr. Mohammad Al-Amin, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic) of the University of Chittagong; Professor Dr. Md. Shafiqul Islam, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration); and Bakhtiar Ahmed, Deputy General Manager of BSCL.
