CUET Students Reject New VC

The march began around 2pm from in front of the Teachers-Students Centre (TSC) after Friday prayers. The protesters marched through several roads on the campus before ending the procession at the Central Shaheed Minar premises.
During the march, students chanted slogans including, “Whom do we want as VC? We want Sayem Sir again,” and “We have only one demand: we want Sayem Sir as VC.”
At the Central Shaheed Minar, the protesting students reiterated their position regarding the joining of the newly appointed vice-chancellor. They also announced wall writing as their next protest programme.
Akram Hossain Sujon, a fourth-year student of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering who took part in the march, said, “Yesterday we learned that Professor Sheikh Shariful Alam had sent his joining letter for the post of vice-chancellor. We staged today’s protest in response. Yesterday, our teachers announced a full work stoppage from Sunday. We do not want Professor Shariful Alam as vice-chancellor under any circumstances.”
Earlier on Thursday, Professor Dr. Sheikh Shariful Alam did not appear at the university to join as vice-chancellor. Instead, he sent a written joining letter to the President and the Secretary of the Ministry of Education, stating his intention to join the post of vice-chancellor at CUET.
Following the development, CUET students held Friday’s protest march rejecting his joining as vice-chancellor.
