EC Orders Preservation of Polling Center CCTV Footage
The Election Commission of Bangladesh (EC) has instructed that video footage recorded by CCTV cameras at polling centers during the recently concluded 13th National Parliamentary Election be preserved. Letters regarding the directive have already been sent to all returning officers who were on duty during the election.
The information was revealed in an official letter signed by EC Deputy Secretary Mohammad Monir Hossain on Thursday, February 19.
According to the letter, the 13th National Parliamentary Election was held on February 12, 2026. The Election Commission has decided that video footage recorded by CCTV cameras at polling centers—both on the day before voting and on polling day—must be preserved at the offices of the respective Assistant Returning Officers for potential use as evidence in the future.
The letter further states that, in line with the Commission’s decision, necessary measures should be taken to ensure the proper storage of the recorded footage from the CCTV-equipped polling centers at the relevant Assistant Returning Officers’ offices.
Election Commissioner Brigadier General (Retd.) Abul Fazal Md. Sanaullah said that approximately 90 percent of polling centers in the 13th National Parliamentary Election were equipped with CCTV cameras.
